![]() ![]() ![]() The extender IR cable set is just in case the PowerMid XL isn't powerful enough as we have all our AV kit in an Oak cabinet. this is something the Youview box cannot do. we used the Sky magic eye IR connections to control the sky box from these other rooms as the sky box can detect the remote control signal via the Ariel leads. Our set up already consisted of the main Ariel going into the back of the SKY+ box and using the rf output/ariel 2 connection back out to a RF booster/splitter which then fed an RF signal to each room in the house. Ordering through Amazon came to Approx £52. Marmitek IR Eye universal IR extender cable set Reading the reply's on this Thread pointed me in the right direction and I have ordered the following to see if they will allow me to control the box from another room via the Ariel leads already installed. The TECH GUY who delivered and installed the box didn't have a solution to the problem I would imaging that most people changing over would have a similar problem. Having changed from SKY to Youview I to have come across the same issue of not being able to control the new Youview box from other rooms via the output RF using the existing "magic Eye" IR. It will still act as a satellite tuner although obviously you lose the encrypted channels (some like Dave are free on Freeview!) although any recording facility is disabled when you cease paying.įor all those techies out there i apologize in advance. By the way, there is no need to dispense with the Sky box if you cease subscribing. So there are several solutions which can replicate this Sky box feature. If your kitchen TV has an HDMI input, it is possible to get a HDMI splitter/amplifier and run a long HDMI lead to replace the Sky RF cable. Also it appears the Humax box does not output the overlays (like the now/next popup) seen on screen to the SCART if the HDMI socket is used at the same time. ![]() It gets a bit more complicated if you want to control the Youview box from the kitchen transmitting remote control codes back is a little more complex. It is possible to get a "modulator" (something like this which was the first from a Google search) that will take the signal from the SCART socket of the Youview and convert it to af UHF analogue TV signal - in effect it replicates the circuits in the Sky box that generate the RF out signal. If you were watching a recording or catchup, this would not be sent on to the kitchen. The downside of this is that you obviously cannot watch exactly the same programming on both sets. Unless you get signal loss in the length of the cable to the kitchen (not likely if it is nearby and the cable run is fairly short), there is nothing to stop you simply attaching the Sky RF cable to the out on the Youview box and tune in your kitchen TV's digital tuner or a cheap Freeview box if it does not have one. The Humax YouView box gives a slight amplification to the aerial signal to allow itself and the next device in the "daisy chain" to have an adequate signal. Sky boxes tune in the satellite signal and the RF out sends an analogue RF signal at a specific UHF frequency so that an analogue TV can tune to it as if it were another terrestrial transmitter. The RF out on virtually all Freeview boxes is simply to allow the terrestrial aerial signal to "pass through" to a further device like a TV or another set top box. On the other hand, there are ways round it. The brief answer to your question as it is phrased is no. ![]()
